ONLINE SEMINAR ON THE HISTORY OF THE PERM POLITICAL CAMPS WAS HELD IN GERMANY

July 15, 2022 an online seminar on Perm-35, Perm-36 and Perm-37 camps was held in Germany as a part of the «The dissident library» educational project of International Memorial. The discussion was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the first transfer of political prisoners from the Mordovia camps to the so-called «Perm Triangle».

The participants talked with Manuela Putz, PhD (Centre for East European Studies at the University of Bremen) about the cultural space of Perm labour camps and their transformation into the camps for political prisoners They also discussed  the significance of these camps for the development of the Soviet dissident movement. The relevant documents and sources on the issues of the seminar were presented by the archive of the Research Centre for East European Studies at the University of Bremen.

«The dissident library» is a project organised by International Memorial* and supported by the KARTA Center Foundation (Warsaw). It is a series of online meetings with authors of published research and memoirs on the Soviet dissident movement.
